What Generator Size do You Require for Your Home?

The download link (below) will  open a sheet with the listing of the electrical requirements of the usual items in the household. Wattage is the measure of power required for each of these items. Please note that wattage necessary to start some things is greater than which is needed to run them. This is especially true of any device that has an electric motor, and anything that heats and cools. The biggest requirement in rural areas is the water well pump. The greatest requirements, in any neighborhood, is air conditioning, and refrigeration. After you add up everything you will want to run, in power outage, a generator size can be determined, but keep in mind that not only the generator becomes more costly as the size goes up, but so does the cost of the installation.

Before downloading the Generator Sizing Sheet, please read the Notes below the download link. After that, download and save the file on your hard disk, open it and read carefully the instructions displayed inside the sheet before filling out the required column.  Fill out only a required column and save the file after that. Email the saved file as an attachment to Lewis Needham , lneedham@powertechserv.com . Be sure to enclose the following information in your email message:

  • Your name;
  • Email address;
  • Telephone contact number;
  • Physical address of your dwelling.

Notes!

Most people determine that they need a far larger generator than they actually do. The most popular size for the average home is the 12 or 15 kW (kilowatt) size.

There are also other decisions to make. Do you want the generator to come on automatically or are you willing to go and start it up and switch it over? An automatic switch is required if you wish to make everything automatic.

What fuel would be best? Some people insist on a diesel fueled generator because they feel that they make them more autonomous. The reality is that propane and natural gas driven units are the most popular. If diesel fuel is your choice, an individual quotation will be required. The cost of the labor and materials to do the installation also requires a separate quotation.

Please take a moment and fill the following form to determine which and how many appliances you will want to run in emergency.
